Climate-Human interaction over the Iranian Plateau during the Upper Pleistocene-Holocene: A review

چکیده مقاله:

During the past two decades an array of studies have shed light on potential links between the evolution of Hominids as well as Human dispersal out of Africa and episodes of abrupt climate change. Although archaeological evidences suggest that anatomically modified humans appeared in Africa between 200 and 150 ky ago, the timing of the early humans migration out of Africa remained unclear. Strategically located between the Arabian Peninsula and the Eurasia, the Iranian Plateau played a key role with respect to early hominin’s migration route out of Africa. However, due to the scarcity of the Pleistocene-Holocene high resolution paleoclimate records with robust chronology for this region, the impact of climate variability on early human migration and settlements in this region has not fully explored. The climate of the Iranian Plateau is mainly controlled by the interactions between three major synoptic systems: the mid-latitude Westerlies, the Siberian Anticyclone (SA) and the Indian Ocean Summer Monsoon (IOSM).

Climate Forcing during the Holocene

The role of several important factors that have played a role in Holocene climate change is examined. These forcing factors operate on different time-scales: lower frequency (millennial-scale) climate changes associated with orbital forcing, century-scale variability associated with solar forcing, and annualto decadal-scale variability associated with volcanic forcing. Feedbacks within the clim...

The role of changes in the large-scale atmospheric systems in the evolution of the late Pleistocene and Holocene climate of the Zagros Mountains

1-Introduction   The Zagros Mountains range with a northwest-southeast direction covers a large part of western Iran. This range acts as a barrier against mid-latitude westerly airflows and thereby generates significant orographic rainfalls, resulting in a hospitable environment which has been home to ancient civilizations. Major variations in the westerlies can lead to significant environ...

1. introduction the zagros mountains present a great potential for paleo-environmental studies for the reconstruction climates of the late-pleistocene and holocene. iranian zagros mountains form the northeastern boundary of the fertile crescent and separating the mesopotamian lowlands from the iranian plateau. it is postulated that near east was a place for the domestication of plants and anima...

Climate change, adaptive cycles, and the persistence of foraging economies during the late Pleistocene/Holocene transition in the Levant.

Climatic forcing during the Younger Dryas (∼12.9-11.5 ky B.P.) event has become the theoretical basis to explain the origins of agricultural lifestyles in the Levant by suggesting a failure of foraging societies to adjust. This explanation however, does not fit the scarcity of data for predomestication cultivation in the Natufian Period. The resilience of Younger Dryas foragers is better illust...
